We can do it

The Heritage Community Development Foundation was formed because we believe that tackling the root causes of the social and economic issues we face in Rivers State and the Niger Delta region, however difficult it may appear, is the logical path to follow with patience and faith in ourselves.

Join us and make the mission to liberate the youth and regenerate our rural communities a reality. It is a tough task, but a first step can take us quite far.

We cannot fold our hands and watch these innocent children grow up in the same culture that has created our present reality.

Join the coalition of those who have been called to serve. The prosperity of the community is a shared one.

Origin of the Story of Our Mission

I’ve been on a long journey in the diaspora, and for a while, it felt like I’d found a new home. But as the years passed, a deep longing for my own country, Nigeria, grew stronger. I often see so much progress in places in the UK, and I’d instinctively wish those same good things for my people back in Rivers State and the Niger Delta region.

Yet, that wish often led to frustration, anger, and a heavy dose of resentment. The simple reason is that at its core, Nigeria’s social and economic system is deeply flawed and troubling. For me, the root of the problem is an ingrained mindset, typified by the phrase that keeps repeating in my head: “Is it my father’s work?” It’s the belief that public service is a route to quick, unearned wealth, that there’s no personal duty to protect the common good.

Many will tell me, “that it’s just the Naija way.” But I refuse to believe that a culture of corruption, disorder, and lawlessness is our true identity.

That’s why the Heritage Community Development Foundation was founded. This organisation is not a pastime; it’s a mission born from personal conviction and a vision. I believe that tackling the root causes of our social and economic issues in Rivers State and the Niger Delta, no matter how difficult, is the only logical path forward. It requires patience and an unwavering faith in our ability to change.

It may seem naive to think we can change the “Naija way”. But I also know that a path, no matter how narrow, is created with a single, courageous first step.

This is my story, and this is why the Foundation exists.
